28 students of State-run institution test positive for COVID

All of them have been sent home; Security measures beefed up at Wyra Residential Institute

28 students of Junior College for Girls in Telangana state Gurukulam and Vaira town here have tested positive for COVID-19, prompting authorities to implement coronavirus preventive measures in the state-run residential educational institution has been done.

Sources said that a girl student, who returned to the institution from her village after attending a function at her home two days ago, showed signs of infection on Saturday. He was sent back home as a security precaution and later tested positive for COVID-19 through Rapid Antigen Test (RAT).

Sources said that 27 other students of the institute were diagnosed with the coronavirus infection during a screening camp held on the campus of the institute over the weekend. Barring 28 students, all others tested negative.

Those who tested positive for COVID-19 have returned to their homes. Meanwhile, several parents reached the residential institution on Sunday to take their daughters back home for a few days as a safety precaution.

Official sources said the premises of the institution have been sanitized and COVID-19 preventive measures have been intensified.
