Airtel: Airtel 5G. but showed the future of immersive video entertainment

Using immersive video technology on its high-speed 5G test network, Airtel recreates the in-stadium experience Kapil DevThe famous unbeaten innings of 175 against Zimbabwe during the 1983 Cricket World Cup. A special 175 replayed video, in 4K mode, was brought to the key moments of the match, with no video footage due to the TV technicians’ strike.
With speeds of over 1Gbps and latency of less than 20 ms, more than 50 concurrent users enjoyed Match’s highly personalized 4K video experience on 5G smartphones, including real-time access to multiple camera angles, 360-degree in-depth, Stadia view, shot analysis and statistics.
Airtel demonstrated at its Network Experience Center in Manesar (Gurugram) using Ericsson 5G radios in NSA and SA mode over the 3500 MHz band test spectrum allotted by the Department of Telecommunications, Government of India.
Randeep Sekhon, CTO, Bharti Airtel, said, “5G’s gigabit speeds and millisecond latency will transform the way we consume entertainment. With today’s demonstration, we have only surfaced the endless possibilities of 5G and highly personalized immersive experiences in the digital world. With 5G based holograms, we will be able to take virtual avatars to any place and it will be a game changer for meetings and conferences, live news and there will be many other use cases. All set for 5G in the digital world and creating a solid pipeline of innovative use cases for India.We take this opportunity to thank DoT for giving us trial spectrum, to validate our technology can be accessed and use cases can be made.”
Earlier this year, Airtel showcased India’s first 5G experience on a live 4G network. It also showcased India’s first rural 5G trial as well as the first cloud gaming experience on 5G.
