Five9 plans to expand with 2 data centers in Europe, move Russian employees to Portugal

Five9, the US call center software firm whose shareholders turned down a merger with Zoom last year, is looking to expand by setting up two data centers in Europe and moving its employees to Portugal in Russia.

The data centers will be in Frankfurt and Amsterdam, and will serve customers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

“About 10 percent of our revenue today comes from Europe … we want to at least double our European contribution in the near term,” CEO Rowan Trollope told Reuters.

shareholders of five9whose call center software is used by more than 2,000 companies, in October turned down a merger with zoom After relying solely on the stock as payment, he refused to add cash to his bid.

Faced with the Russo-Ukraine war, Five9 has also offered to move 176 of its employees in Russia to Portugal where it is opening a development site.

“The office in Russia is closing on June 10,” Trollope said. “We’ve offered to move our employees, and we don’t know what percentage of them will go, but it could be like 100 or so of them.”

Trollope expects its center in Portugal to employ about 300 to 400 people.

US call center firm came into limelight Last year Zoom canceled its acquisition of call center software firm Five9 for $14.7 billion (about Rs 1,09,280 crore).

Zoom’s reluctance to add cash to its bid and its shares plunged as much as 29 percent in the weeks following the deal’s announcement in July 2021 as the currency to pay for the Five9 deal entirely on its stock. Relying on, for physical meetings over concerns about the return as the COVID-19 pandemic will destroy his business.

Five 9 shareholders rejected the deal. Investment bankers and analysts said Zoom’s stock will remain volatile until investors establish what its business prospects will be after the pandemic is over. He added that this reduces the likelihood of another acquisition target accepting Zoom’s shares as currency in the near future.
