An asteroid 190 feet wide is soon approaching Earth and NASA has already announced its approach. To give you some perspective, the asteroid is larger than the Colosseum (157 feet) located in Rome. According to the space agency, on Wednesday, June 8, the asteroid will make its closest approach to our planet. It is not unusual for asteroids to pass close to Earth. Earlier on Monday, an asteroid 160 feet tall had reached close to Earth. However, the upcoming asteroid is raising eyebrows. This large asteroid may have some impact on our planet when it arrives on Wednesday.
jet propulsion laboratory NASA has revealed more details about the asteroid. This asteroid was first discovered in 2022, as the name suggests. There is no previous data, which indicates that this asteroid has never been observed close to Earth.
Also on its website, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory listed “The Next Five Asteroid Approaches”, including 2022 KV1.
According to the space agency, the asteroid is expected to make a safe passage and is unlikely to impact the planet.
The monitoring is being done by NASA’s Planetary Defense Coordination Office (PDCO).
Researchers cannot yet predict the pattern of the path this asteroid will follow. The reason for this is that it will reach close to the Earth for the first time. NASA has not seen any strange movements in the asteroid since its discovery this year. But the space rock has exhibited an unusual orbit.
At its perihelion, it moves between Earth’s orbits and Venus, Whereas, at its indifference, the asteroid goes as far as Jupiter, So scientists are carefully monitoring the asteroid. No risk or danger has been detected from the asteroid so far. But a slight change in its path can have a huge impact on Earth.
